tea-room-theatre-x750advocate.com – Some are saying “it’s the end of the era” now that San Francisco’s Tea Room Theatre is closing its doors for good this weekend.

The Tea Room, which shows pornographic movies and features live performances, opened in the early 1980s. A fixture in the rough-and-tumble Tenderloin district, the Tea Room has fallen victim to hook-up apps like Grindr and Scruff.

Tea Room employee Steve Angeles told the Bay Area Reporter the theatre “doesn’t make any money” and lamented the high rent; San Francisco rents are typically some of the highest in the nation.

Jason Galanis

www.reuters.com – A man once dubbed “Porn’s New King” before he was accused of stock fraud was hit on Wednesday with new criminal charges over an alleged scheme to cheat investors and a Native American tribe out of tens of millions of dollars.

U.S. authorities said Jason Galanis enlisted his father, John, and five others to defraud clients who invested more than $43 million in illiquid, sham bonds issued in 2014 and 2015 by the Wakpamni Lake Community Corp, an affiliate of the Oglala Sioux Nation in South Dakota.

Rather than invest proceeds to provide capital for the tribe and make payments to bondholders, Jason Galanis, of Los Angeles, and his accomplices spent the money on other investments, support for a technology company’s initial public offering, and luxury goods at retailers such as Gucci and Prada, authorities said.

PlayboyLogo.svg_21dailynewsx.com – Playboy Enterprises will have to pull a rabbit out of its hat if it hopes to fetch $500 million for the company, industry insiders said.

The iconic brand’s assets include its money-losing monthly magazine, its profitable licensing operation and the LA-based Playboy Mansion.

Hugh Hefner and Rezvi Traverse Management, the private equity firm that owns a majority stake in the company, decided last week to weigh bids for the entire company.

In January, the mansion was put on the block for $200 million.

Porn’s Pay Scale: What Everyone Gets Paid

Follow us on Twitter @PornValleyMedia – Send email to: ContactPVM@aol.com

zvividMoney1PVM’s Editor’s Note: Take these figures with a grain of salt.

CNBC.com – There’s a well-worn porn cliche about the college student-turned-actress who decided to have sex in front of a camera in order to pay off her student loans. Like many cliches, it’s rarely true — but it’s worth wondering: How big are paychecks in the porn business, anyway?

Money is a topic that’s shrouded in mystery in the adult entertainment world. While it’s widely presumed to be a multibillion dollar industry, there’s no real firm accounting to back that up. Companies regularly inflate their numbers when speaking publicly and may deflate them at opportune times as well. The same is true of performers.

The median household income for the United States was $53,657 in 2014 (the most recent data available), according to a Census Bureau survey. While that report breaks down average salaries among several careers, there is no data about adult performers.

MindGeek Is Both Plaintiff And Defendant In Two New DMCA Lawsuits

Follow us on Twitter @PornValleyMedia – Send email to: ContactPVM@aol.com

courtforbes.com – In October, MindGeek found itself on the opposite end of two lawsuits, each making the same basic allegation. The company, which owns eight of the 10 biggest porn sites on the Internet, filed a complaint against WGCZ S.R.O., the parent company of porn tube sites XVideos and XNXX. According to trade site XBiz, MindGeek claims “tens or hundreds of thousands” of its videos have been illegally hosted on XVideos and XNXX, which have been viewed in aggregate more than 100 million times. MindGeek claims WGCZ S.R.O. failed to respond to any of its DMCA requests to remove the videos and is demanding $150,000 for each of its videos hosted on the competitors tube sites.

Virtual-Reality: Porn’s Billion-Dollar New Frontier

Follow us on Twitter @PornValleyMedia and @AdultFYI1 Send email to: S5ks@aol.com

virtualmarketwatch.com – Your eyes open to a beautiful woman, scantily clad in red lace lingerie. She bats her eyes flirtatiously, then slowly makes her way over to you.

But this is not a flesh-and-blood woman; it’s a three-dimensional performer in a 360-degree immersive video so convincing you can barely tell the difference. In virtual reality, as nowhere else, donning a pair of clunky goggles allows you to pursue your wildest sexual fantasies.

For virtual reality to become a viable business, pornography, which tends to rank among any new technology’s earliest and most eager adopters, will need to play a starring role, analysts say.

Bitcoin

foxbusiness.com – As Greece reaches a crisis of epic proportions, many Europeans are looking to put their money elsewhere. In addition to commodities and other government-issued currencies, bitcoin is seeing an uptick in volume.

“Volumes in the last 48 hours have been about 300% higher than they have been,” said Fred Ehrsam, co-founder of Coinbase, about bitcoin transactions in Europe this week. They are “becoming aware of what it really means to have money in their bank account.”

The value of bitcoin is up over 10% since Friday, according to the NYSE Bitcoin Index. One bitcoin was valued at $266.24 dollars on Tuesday.

Anthony Watson, CEO of Bitreserve, has seen “a lot of activity around the Euro” on their financial platform this week. In addition to digital currency, people are looking at other fiat currencies, gold, oil and even investing in cell phone minutes through Bitreserve.

A Porn Star on How Her Vagina will Fund Early Retirement

Follow us on Twitter @PornValleyMedia and @AdultFYI1 Send email to: S5ks@aol.com

pornshootmancunianmatters.co.uk – It is simply a way to make money for her family and retire early through the sale of a ‘valuable commodity’ – her vagina.

Finding stories about the unfortunate and sometimes harrowing lives of sex workers is an easy thing to do whether it’s on the internet, on TV or in the papers.

And to combat this negative view of the industry – one that often leads to the men and women involved being stereotyped as enslaved, impoverished and therefore weak – the media have recently shifted focus to the porn stars who just really love sex.

Even though the life of an adult performer is not always sunshine and daisies or as simple as stripping down to nothing, it’s not always the case that they have a horrific backstory.

How Adult Entertainment is Hooking Up with Bitcoin

Bitcoin

cointelegraph.com – The influx of new digital technology is drastically changing how users seek entertainment – and how they pay for it, a trend which shows no sign of slowing.

Over the past 15 years the internet has increased ease of paying for entertainment services and allowed for diversification of subscriptions catering to users’ needs. In 2015, however, a further shift is underway in customer habits, one in which Bitcoin is already carving a niche.

Each to their own

While previously it was the norm that professional TV and online entertainment services were paid for in bulk via a subscription, new research suggests the ability to pick and choose not only individual services but individual sessions, paying only for the exact material required, is what the consumer will be demanding in future.

Pay Scale: What Porn Actors Don’t Talk About

Follow us on Twitter @PornValleyMedia and @AdultFYI1 Send email to: S5ks@aol.com

moneynewstatesman.com – Working in pornography means talking about – and doing, filming, distributing and marketing – things that frequently go undiscussed in public. Adult performers share sexual tastes and boundaries with each other in extreme detail before performing a scene, sometimes mere moments after initially meeting. And whether we’re at a public appearance or have just disclosed our job to a new acquaintance on a train, strangers often react to our documented physical and sexual openness as though it gives them a rare safe space to confess; to ask their unanswered questions about sex and to air their secrets and shames.

Why Playboy is Betting on China Expansion

Follow us on Twitter @PornValleyMedia and @AdultFYI1 Send email to: S5ks@aol.com

PlayboyLogo.svg_21from wtvr.com – Playboy is betting big that the bunny won’t lose its appeal in China.

On Wednesday, Playboy announced that it has struck a licensing deal with a Chinese company, Handong United, to manufacture and distribute Playboy-branded apparel and accessories. The deal will put Playboy merchandise in 400 new locations across China, taking the total number of outlets to 3,500.

Playboy — known for its flagship adult magazine and iconic bunny logo — struggled for years as competition increased from free, online porn. Founder Hugh Hefner took Playboy private in 2011, and the company has since focused on re-building the empire by licensing the Playboy brand to boost revenue.

“We’re enhancing our licensing portfolio with long-term, brand-enhancing partners, and Handong United is a partner that can deliver a premium and superior product quality,” said Matt Nordby, president of global licensing at Playboy.

Porn Charity Web Site Can’t Give It’s Money Away

moneyfrom salon.com – Imagine, thousands of horny, one-handed typists deciding to navigate away from free tube sites and instead pay for porn that benefits charitable causes. Orgasms for world peace! Boobs benefiting cancer research! Hard=ons for needy kids! It appears a fantastically far-fetched scenario — particularly in a day and age when paying for porn at all seems anachronistic — but a new adult site is actually making it happen. In just over two months, Hump the Bundle, a play on the popular video game site The Humble Indie Bundle, raised nearly $15,000 in donations.

Only problem is, they can hardly find any charities willing to take their money.

Video – Porn is Seducing Crowdfunders

Follow us on Twitter @PornValleyMedia and @AdultFYI1 Send email to: S5ks@aol.com

moneyfrom cnbc.com – Crowdfunding has worked its way into just about every corner of everyday life these days. Donors can pledge money to new tech, upcoming major motion pictures and even potato salad, so it really shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that they can also contribute to adult entertainment.

While porn and sex toys are a no-no on Kickstarter, they’re just fine on Indiegogo along with a number of other crowdfunding sites. There is even a pair of porn-only crowdfunding sites. And, just as with other industries, people are putting down a lot of money.

While you won’t see the multimillion-dollar hauls of well-known Kickstarter campaigns, several adult-themed projects have taken in hundreds of thousands of dollars in pledges. And that’s helping some companies find wider retail distribution.

How porn stars would invest $10,000

Jessa Rhodes

Jessa Rhodes

from cnbc.com  – When it comes to the right place to invest your money, everyone has a suggestion. That’s true in the world of adult entertainment as well.

Last week, as the stars and superstars of the porn world walked the red carpet before the AVN Awards—the industry’s equivalent of the Oscars—CNBC decided to ask them how they’d invest if they had a little spare cash lying around.

The premise was pretty basic: Stars were given $10,000 in (fictional) money to sink in whatever asset or sector they’d like. Somewhat predictably, many took the opportunity to mention their own companies and websites. Several noted that $10,000 wasn’t a tremendous amount to invest. Still, everyone eventually figured out where they’d invest the cash.

Here are some of the more interesting answers.

Jesse – “Apple. [The company] is always inventing new technology [and] everyone’s going to want it, so it will never go down.”

from virtual-strategy.com – ShapeShift.io has released the Shifty Button, a tool that allows website owners that accept Bitcoin payments or deposits to accept any altcoin that ShapeShift supports automatically by placing simple HTML code into any payment page.

The Shifty Button is free and easy to add to any website. After the HTML code has been placed on web pages needed to enable a check-out process, the user is able to deposit leading altcoins, supported by ShapeShift, and the coins will be automatically converted into Bitcoin for the website owner.

“As the altcoin industry continued to grow over 2014, ShapeShift realized that there was a definite need for an easy way for businesses to incorporate altcoin payment options onto their online stores,” said ShapeShift CEO Beorn Gonthier. “The easier the process is, the more places altcoin users can buy goods online, and the more growth the altcoin community will see in 2015.”

Did Snapchat Just Accidentally Monetize Nudes? *Watch the Clip

snapchatfrom vice.com – Snapchat’s progression from being a deliciously scandalous app made for sending nudes to cute dudes and ladies to a legitimate messaging platform has been fascinating to watch. Still, vestiges of its former seedy life remain in the form of a well-documented amateur porn subculture.

In light of this, it’s not surprising that when Snapchat announced its new in-app payment system, Snapcash, the internet’s first reaction was generally, to quote Reddit user Kaelteth, “…and the progression to a porn company is complete.”

Snapcash will allow users to send money to each other by linking a credit or debit card to their account with Square, a popular device-based commerce platform for businesses and individuals. By typing “$” and an amount into the app’s messaging field, you’ll be able to send money to a user you’re connected with.

Why The Porn Industry Needs Bitcoin

Bitcoin

Bitcoin

from coinreport.net – Bitcoin has the potential to dramatically change many industries: remittances, gambling, even the stock market. One area that doesn’t immediately comes to mind is the adult film industry: it certainly seems like online pornography is getting along just fine without Bitcoin.

That’s where you might be surprised.

Here’s the problem: the mainstream financial industry is surprisingly hostile towards porn creators and actors, and many in the porn industry are turning to Bitcoin, not because of its various advantages, but because the existing financial industry has left them no other choice.

For example: PayPal’s acceptable use policy has vague language against “obscene” content, and they’re famous for shutting down the accounts of sex workers arbitrarily and without warning – despite porn being entirely legal in the US. Worse, PayPal reportedly strong-armed crowdfunding website Patreon into banning adult performers, threatening to entirely block PayPal transactions to the site (essentially destroying their business model). And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Has Cindy Gallop Figured Out a Way to Make People to Pay for Porn Again?

Cindy Gallop

Cindy Gallop

from bizjournals.com –  Cindy Gallop has figured out a way to make people to pay for porn again. She’s got 30 years marketing experience, she’s a SXSW and TED Talk veteran, and her next-generation porn company has been generating revenue since the day it launched.

And yet, thanks to what she describes as built-in prejudices against investing in the adult industry, she just can’t find any venture capitalist willing to get behind her company, New York-based MakeLoveNotPorn.

Not that investors don’t want a piece of the adult industry pie, she said, but that they fear what other people will think. Which is where bitcoin, the pseudonymous, crypto-currency with a growing economy of investors and users, enters the equation.

“Silicon Valley welcomes innovation in every other area of our lives except this one, and this is the one that needs it most,” Gallop told me in a recent interview. “Everything that is happening in the bitcoin space is directly analogous to what has the potential to happen in the sex-tech space.”

Titcoin

from cryptocoinsnews.com – Playboy, the most recognizable adult men’s lifestyle magazines in the world, posted an article yesterday about Titcoin and they certainly weren’t being pulled around by the name. Instead, they had some pretty good critiques for the Titcoin development team and community if they really are serious about being the cryptocurrency for the adult entertainment industry.

Titcoin, the altcoin that aims to be a go-to currency specifically for the adult entertainment and sex worker industry, has potential; anonymity and privacy could be a serious benefit for the industry, shielding consumers from the eyes of spouses, family, and others who may glance at their online purchases or credit statements, as well as the encrypted security of cryptocurrencies help protect consumers online.

Playboy on Titcoin

But aside from these basic benefits that practically all cryptocurrencies have, Titcoin has not yet really set itself apart – especially with Bitcoin already in the forefront. Playboy writes:
